The soaps only ever breed one type of grandmother: the battleaxe. So it’s no shock to find that Callum and Stuart’s nanna Vi is a straight-talking pensioner with no qualms about putting people in their place. It helps, though, that she’s being brought to life by Gwen Taylor, who was hilarious in Duty Free and terrifying as Anne Malone on Corrie.

And there’s no denying Vi’s ability to stir up trouble. In her first episode alone, she picks up on the tense atmosphere at the Mitchells’ and sets about quizzing Ben. Cue Mr Mitchell reiterating that he had nothing to do with Kush’s death, while Callum – who’s now determined for there to be no more lies in their relationship – ends up admitting that he was once ordered by the police to bring down Phil.

The big question in the aftermath of this confession is whether Ben can now forgive him.

Where is Bailey?

Following the disappearance of young Bailey, the police are searching the Taylors’ house and Mitch is worried that the family will be blamed. But when Amy mentions that Bailey couldn’t afford space camp, Mitch’s guilt grows as he realises that his daughter had money worries on her mind.

Later in the week, we also get Karen lashing out at her former boss from the laundrette and taking offence when concerned neighbours leave a gift hamper on her doorstep. But as the Taylors crumble, where exactly is Bailey? Well, on Friday, we’ll see the poor kid tucked up in a sleeping bag at an underpass with Banjo the dog by her side. Consider your heartstrings to be well and truly tugged.

More bad news for Whitney

Whitney Dean (SHONA MCGARTY) - (BBC)

Whitney is convinced that Kush’s death was no accident, but it’s Ben who she believes to have been involved in his untimely demise. If only there’d been just one working CCTV camera in that tube station, eh? Or staff. Or passengers, for that matter.

Whit’s plan now, of course, is to fly out to Dubai along with Martin and Sonia in order to give Kush a final send-off. But as she pays Gray a visit to check that he’ll be OK with the kids while she’s away, the psychopathic solicitor delivers some more bad news…

Linda’s pregnancy news

WARNING: Embargoed for publication until 00:00:01 on 27/04/2021 - Programme Name: EastEnders - April-June 2021 - TX: 04/05/2021 - Episode: EastEnders - April-June 2021- 6266 (No. 6266) - Picture Shows: ***EMBARGOED TILL TUESDAY 27TH APRIL 2021*** Nancy Carter (MADDY HILL), Linda Carter (KELLIE BRIGHT) - (C) BBC - Photographer: Kieron McCarron/Jack Barnes

It must be quite difficult to disguise a real-life pregnancy bump on screen when everyone’s standing at a two-metre distance from one another. So, the fact that actress Kellie Bright is expecting her third child in real life has resulted in Linda coming to the conclusion that she’s also up the duff-duff.

But there’s more than just baby news in the Carter household. Relations between Linda and Nancy are becoming more strained by the minute – with the recent returnee left fuming by what she sees as her mum’s meddling. My forecast is to expect severe frost between mother and daughter by Tuesday.
