EastEnders fans torn over Robbie's return to Walford

Dean Gaffney made his big EastEnders comeback in tonight's show (June 26) and, nearly 15 years after he left the Square back in 2003, Robbie Jackson is here on a full-time basis.

Robbie has popped in and out of the soap a few times since he left – most recently returning in 2015 – but now he's back for a longer stint after being named as the market's new enforcement officer, putting him at odds with some of the other market traders – particularly feisty Donna Yates.

Heck, even old friend Martin Fowler didn't seem entirely convinced by Robbie's qualifications for his new job.

Gaffney has already promised that Robbie will ruffle a few feathers and rub a few people up the wrong way as he gets stuck into his new job.

"I think he's already making his mark in the sense of rubbing people up the wrong way. And again, it is typical Robbie," Dean told Digital Spy recently.

"I got a script the other day and I thought, 'That's Robbie', because it's just him annoying people on the Square, and them getting their own back. So he hasn't changed in that sense."

And it turns out that among those who Robbie is rubbing up the wrong way are some of EastEnders' viewers, who were less than pleased to see him return to screens tonight.

But Robbie proved once again to be a real Marmite kind of character, because if viewers weren't complaining about his return, they were actually pretty excited by it:

And, really, we're all just waiting to see Wellard now (although Gaffney told us there's only one mention of him, so we'll probably be waiting a while):
