EastEnders spoilers: Shane Richie ‘to return to Albert Square’ alongside Jessie Wallace after two-year break

Shane Richie is reportedly set to return to EastEnders as Alfie Moon following a two-year break from the show.

The star is rumoured to be starting filming in two weeks, after his on-screen wife Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) makes her comeback on the soap.

A source told The Sun: “With Kat’s comeback the writers knew viewers would ask when Alfie would be back too, so they’ve managed to convince Shane to return.

"It won’t be long-term but he’ll play a role in a number of storylines in the coming months.”

The last time viewers saw Wallace and Richie together on screen was in spin-off series Redwater where they appeared to drown in the series finale.

Back in Walford, Slater’s aunt Big Mo has also returned to the Square with the shock news that her niece is dead.

All isn’t as it seems, as producers have confirmed Slater’s return, meanwhile her family are busy planning a memorial at the Queen Vic pub.

It’s not yet clear whether Richie will return in time for the memorial or whether his comeback will coincide with Wallace’s.

It comes despite Richie telling Lorraine Kelly earlier this week that he had no plans to return to the soap immediately.
