EastEnders: Walford Said Goodbye To Ronnie and Roxy With A Rave In A Church And It Was Weirdly Wonderful

So last night’s EastEnders was all kinds of emotional as the residents of Albert Square finally bid farewell to much-loved sisters Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell.

It was all rather intense and emotional – what with Jack Branning fleeing the graveside in disgust as Roxy’s coffin got lowered into the ground and Max admitting to Stacey that Roxy was off her nut on cocaine at the time of her death.

Oh, and who could forget low-key icon Aunt Sal telling the entire congregation what a bad mother Glenda was to the girls (seriously – when is she going to get a permanent role in the show?)

But there was at least one moment of light relief – during the service, Donna and Shirley had organised for Ronnie and Roxy’s favorite song to be played.

Obviously, it was an Ibiza trance track – and everyone in the congregation was given glowsticks to rave with.

Never in our lives will we forget the image of Phil Mitchell and Dot Cotton doing ‘Big Fish - Little Fish – Cardboard Box’ with a couple of glo-sticks whilst two ornate coffins balance haphazardly on the altar.

Well, it’s what the girls would’ve wanted, right?

Needless to say, the funeral divided opinion. Some were positive, with one fan taking to Twitter and writing: 'Casual rave at Ronnie and Roxy’s funeral, pretty standard’, whilst another posted 'Ronnie & Roxy’s impromptu funeral rave has been the highlight of my evening.’

However, some fans bemoaned the lack of realism in the show and complained that the pair have been forgotten about and not given the send off they deserved as such an iconic duo.

'Completely underwhelmed by Ronnie and Roxy’s funeral they didn’t get the send-off they deserved, #Eastenders you’ve let the fans down’ one person complained, whilst another wrote 'Louise was proper upset when Ronnie & Roxy died. She didn’t even attend the funeral & is now linking some next boy? Unrealistic.’

It comes as viewers have complained about the show’s change of direction in recent months.
