When is Easter 2020? School holidays and UK term dates

Easter is very nearly upon us, and Brits are looking forward to the next set of national holidays.

But unlike Christmas, Halloween and Valentine's Day, the date of Easter changes every year and falls any time between March 22 and April 25.

This year, Easter Sunday will be on April 12 with school holidays and bank holidays slotting around that date.

When is Easter 2020?

Easter Sunday falls on April 12.

Good Friday will be on April 10 and Easter Monday bank holiday, April 13.

It changes each year because the Christian date is decided by a complex set of calculations based on observations of the moon.

When do schools finish for Easter 2020?

Schools usually get around two weeks off for the Easter break.

This year, children will get two weeks holiday from April 3 to April 20 although dates vary from different schools and areas.

When are UK term dates?

For most schools, spring term finished on April 6, with the break lasting around two weeks. Summer term starts again on April 20.

The half term holiday then falls on May 25 with a few weeks left of term until the Summer holidays on Wednesday July 22.

Children start the new school year on September 2, this year. Half term falls on October 26 and Christmas holidays start on December 18.

Bank holidays

Good Friday and Easter Monday are not the only national holidays to look forward to as temperatures get warmer.

The first May bank holiday has actually been moved from Monday to Friday May 8 this year for the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

Meanwhile Spring bank holiday falls on May 25 and the Summer bank holiday falls on August 31.
