Yahoo News Eccleston says Whittaker will be "the best Doctor"
In case you didn't realise it by now, Christopher Eccleston is *really* excited that Jodie Whittaker is the new Doctor in Doctor Who.
Eccleston has been lauding the casting choice pretty much ever since Jodie was revealed as the first ever female Doctor back in July last year and now he's reaffirming his assessment by once again saying that the BBC series was overdue a reinvention.
"She will be the best Doctor. I mean why did they have to wait so long?" he said to the BBC, adding that the role has been played by "too many skinny white men like me".
"I absolutely loved playing the character and I'm so glad it's being reinvented."
The actor has made similar comments before, telling Lorraine Kelly at the end of last year that he believed the BBC have "gone as far as they can with skinny white men".
"It's time, isn't it?" he continued. "It had to change, and God knows how much money it makes for the BBC. They needed to reinvent it, and they could not have chosen someone better."
Jodie Whittaker's era of Doctor Who is already bringing forth quite a few changes, so it looks like Eccleston is getting that reinvention he's after.
As well as a new logo that was revealed earlier this week, Doctor Who is also getting a new composer and a new writer after both Murray Gold and Jamie Mathieson confirmed they were leaving the series.
If that's not enough change, there will also be a new special effects team in place for season 11 too as the show's previous VFX team confirmed they were handing over to the studio that worked on Blade Runner 2049 earlier this month.
Doctor Who series 11 will debut in Autumn 2018 on BBC One, although we don't have a specific premiere date just yet.
