Edinburgh Italian restaurant announce 'permanent closure' with note to diners

An Edinburgh restaurant has been forced to close its doors due to 'financial difficulties'.

Popular eatery, Wildwood Pasta and Grill, located on Lothian Road, has 'permanently closed' with a note left to diners on the window of the venue. It comes as a number of the restaurants were at risk of closure across the UK, Edinburgh Live understands.

A total of 18 venues have closed after the owners of Wildwood, Tasty, said that they faced a "challenging" start to 2024.

A sign that was placed on the window of the Lothian Road restaurant reads: "Sorry, we have to say goodbye. We taken taken the difficult decision to permanently close our doors. Thank you to all who have supported us over the years".

Due to problems that Tasty faced, the company has revealed plans to shut a raft of sites as part of 'major restructuring,' reports The Mirror. A statement read: "We appreciate the current interest in Tasty PLC and specifically the changes that we are making. In our pursuit of operational efficiency and long-term sustainability, we have decided to implement a restructuring plan.

"As part of this process, we have closed Wildwood Bicester, Birmingham, Brentwood, Cambridge, Chichester, Edinburgh, Kettering, Kingston, Ludlow, Market Harborough, Plymouth Derry’s Cross, Skipton, Worcester, and dim t Loughton.

"We understand the impact of these difficult decisions and but unfortunately, they represent the steps needed to navigate a path through the challenges which are prevalent in our industry specifically, and the economy in general. We are confident that the changes will ensure the long-term viability of the Company and will protect the employment of the majority of our staff.

"Our primary focus will be on optimising the performance of our remaining Wildwood and dim t restaurants and thereby securing the long-term viability and profitability of the Company."
