Edinburgh weather: Exact time yellow warning hits city with 'flooding likely'

A yellow weather warning has been issued for the majority of Scotland, covering Edinburgh and the Lothians.

After a sunny few days, with temperatures reaching above 20C and Edinburgh locals making the most of the glorious sunshine, the Met Office has warned people to expect a drastic change on Wednesday, May 22, and Thursday, May 23.

A yellow weather warning for heavy rain is in place for Wednesday from midday and runs until 6pm on Thursday. Forecasters have warned that flooding is likely and that there is a slight chance of power cuts taking place while the weather warning is in place.

According to the Met Office heavy downpours are set to start at around 12pm on Wednesday following a dull morning with the rain forecast to continue throughout the day and into Thursday.

The Met Office forecast for Tuesday in Edinburgh reads: "A dry start with good sunny spells for most, but around eastern coastal fringes misty with some drizzle. Cloud building from east through afternoon with showers developing, with some thunderstorms possible away from the eastern coastal fringe. Maximum temperature 20 °C."

Forecasters then wrote for Wednesday and Thursday: "Overcast with patchy rain initially, which turns heavy at times in the east from around mid-afternoon. Freshening northerly winds developing during the evening. Maximum temperature 19 °C."

"Thursday overcast with periods of rain, turning heavy at times in the east. Friday cloudy with patchy rain, best of shelter towards east coast. Saturday dry with sunny spells."
