Edinburgh weather: Thunderstorms set to batter the city as more rain forecast

Rain is in store for the next two weeks after a short spell of sunny days over the bank holiday in the capital. Edinburgh is forecast to have deluges almost daily leading up to and entering June.

The heaviest of rainfall is due for Thursday, May 23, with the yellow weather warning for rain still in place till the evening. A flood alert had been issued for Edinburgh and the Lothians as a yellow weather warning was issued.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) issued the alert for the area as the Met Office forecast heavy rain to continue throughout Wednesday and into Thursday.

The rain is expected to last through the night and into Friday morning and ease off slightly. Downfalls are expected to continue throughout the day with some considerable cloudiness and high humidity.

Saturday is predicted to be cloudy with a bit of sun peeking through and light breezes. But more rain is forecast to be on and off throughout the day.

Sunday morning is forecast to have a relief from the rain but come lunchtime and into early afternoon, BBC Weather has predicted Edinburgh will see thundery showers.

The temperature will still be warm, hovering around 15C - 18C s at the weekend. Sunrise is before 5am and the sun is setting after 9.30pm most days making the days feel longer.

After this weekend the next 10 days are a mixture of breezy and light rain on and off - so still carry that umbrella with you! Most days are forecast to be cloudy.

Temperature-wise, it will be steady, staying around 17C to 18C in the capital, easing us into the summer months, with hopefully some sun set to return.
