A Blackburn general election candidate visited the town's Utilita Energy Hub to discuss energy cost issues.

Labour's incumbent Kate Hollern met Utilita’s chief executive, Bill Bullen, at the Blackburn store in The Mall on Monday.

They discussed how current costs of living are affecting Lancashire citizens.

Mrs Hollern saw how Utilita uses smart digital technology, like its app, to help users manage and minimize their energy expenditure.

She was given a tour of the Hub, a multi-purpose community space providing residents with advice on energy bills among other services.

Ms Hollern said: "It was a pleasure to meet with Bill and the team at the Utilita Hub in Blackburn earlier this week.

"The Energy Hub is an impressive space where people can access face-to-face advice on their energy bills.

"If re-elected, I will champion Labour's plan for Great British Energy to cut costs for good and slash fuel poverty.

"Thank you to Bill and the team for welcoming me and for the vital work that they do supporting our community."

Utilita’s Blackburn Hub plays host to a team of energy experts offering straightforward advice on conserving energy to anyone, regardless of whether they're Utilita customers or not.

The Hub offers 15 easily implementable ways to cut household expenditure by potentially £316 annually.

Mr Bullen said: "It was a pleasure to welcome Kate to our Energy Hub so she could see first-hand how we are offering face-to-face energy advice whilst putting down strong roots in the communities we serve.

"I hope she spreads word of the Hub, as she continues to support the people of Blackburn."
