An electrician from Staffordshire was killed in a horror jet ski crash in Thailand, a coroner's court has heard. Jonathan Greene was on holiday in Phuket with his family when he was involved in the smash.

The 37-year-old was hurt in a jet ski accident off the holiday resort. Mr Greene was taken to a Bangkok hospital but died there on May 6.

Details of the tragedy emerged this week at North Staffordshire Coroner's Court. Assistant coroner Duncan Ritchie opened and adjourned an inquest into Mr Greene's death.

A post-mortem examination in Thailand indicated Mr Greene - of Church Avenue, Baddeley Green, Stoke-on-Trent - died of suspected drowning. An inquest into his death will take place at a date to be set, StokeonTrentLive reports.

Mr Ritchie said: "Jonathan William Greene was born on March 10, 1987 and died on May 6, 2024 in a Bangkok hospital. His occupation was an electrician.

"He was on holiday and his family were informed that he'd had a jet ski accident. His post-mortem examination was carried out in Thailand and is suspected drowning, therefore it is an unnatural cause of death.

"This hearing has been adjourned until a date to be fixed pending the preparation of further reports."
