Elliott Whitehead completes Super League return with next club confirmed

Elliott Whitehead has signed for Catalans Dragons ahead of the 2025 season, according to Sky Sports. The England international has reportedly agreed to join the Dragons following a long pursuit, with the 34-year-old returning to Super League after almost a decade away.

Whitehead will return to France having left Perpignan for Canberra in 2016. He has gone on to make 195 NRL appearances and established himself as one of the best back-rowers in the competition over the best part of ten years.

Rugby League Live revealed in May that Whitheead had held discussions with the Dragons and Hull FC about a return to Super League next season, and that has now come to fruition.

He will be part of a high-profile recruitment drive that will include Sydney Roosters' superstar halfback Luke Keary, with Rugby League Live revealing last week that he had backflipped on retirement and would take up a deal with the Dragons.

The Dragons have already announced the signing of Tommy Makinson, the St Helens winger who will help to replace Tom Johnstone. Keary will replace Jordan Abdull, with Whitehead essentially brought in to replace Mike McMeeken, who is heading to Wakefield Trinity.
