Emmerdale's John Bowe has thanked fans for their support after finding out he was being axed from the soap.

The actor has had an outpouring of support and surprise from fans of the soap on Twitter since he made the revelation, and John has now thanked those people for their "kind words" in a new post today (April 29).

"Thankyou for all your kind words. I am truly amazed and extremely grateful. It is always an honour and privilege to perform for you. X," he wrote on Twitter.

The actor broke the news that his character Lawrence is being written out of the show in a series of tweets earlier this week, adding that it wasn't his choice to leave Emmerdale and he was left shocked by the news.

In a candid tweet to one fan he said he was "still reeling from the door being shut in his face" – adding fuel to the speculation that his character could be killed off.

Rumours have been rife for a while now that Lawrence could be murdered by his grandson Lachlan in a plot that would also see Emma Barton written out of the show, so this could now be his exit storyline.

The rumoured storyline was set to play out in the run-up to Christmas, but John confirmed he wasn't allowed to comment on particular plots so viewers will have to wait and see what happens with Lawrence later this year.

A spokesperson for Emmerdale previously told Digital Spy: "We never comment on storyline speculation or actors' contracts."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
