Emmerdale has revealed the outcome of Belle King being burned by husband Tom.

Harrowing scenes aired during the soap's special dinner party episode, where Marlon and Rhona's marriage crumbled in front of their friends.

Unbeknownst to the dinner party guests, Belle was suffering in silence under her husband Tom's mental abuse — and he would turn physically violent once the guests left.

Tom had discovered Belle was secretly taking her birth control pills, leading to him shoving her hand under scalding hot water in the sink.

In Wednesday's (May 8) episode, Tom once again tried to manipulate Belle by insisting she'd caught her own hand under the tap by mistake.

He also tried to keep her pacified by claiming the police found her ring after their recent house robbery — though viewers know Tom staged the robbery and never contacted police.

Belle confronted Tom as he was about to head off to work, but he turned everything around by claiming she was wrongly accusing him of trying to hurt her.

"We were having words about something incredibly insensitive and selfish you did [taking birth control pills]," he insisted. "I didn't even know your hand was under the tap!"

Tom claimed: "I don't know what you think happened, but your hand was there for a second, less than a second. I'm sorry but this shouldn't distract from the real issue… I still don't understand why you think you had to lie, actually trick me."

Belle walked away at that point, though she later gathered the strength to have it out properly with Tom, after overhearing Marlon talk about how important it is for couples to be honest with each other.

When Belle turned up at the vet's office to speak to Tom, she insisted they needed to have a serious conversation once he got home from work.

However, Tom once again completely brushed aside Belle's concerns and tried to make it out like they'd already agreed to put the incident behind them.

Tom busted out the champagne from their dinner party and toasted to their marriage, while an unsettled Belle hesitantly took a sip.

The soap has already confirmed that Tom's sadistic streak will continue next week as he once again turns violent with Belle.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
