Emmerdale star Louise Jameson teases new romantic development for Mary in 2024

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale star Louise Jameson has teased a new romantic development for Mary Goskirk in the New Year.

Mary hasn’t had much luck since entering the village last year, with her relationship with con artist Faye Helders coming to an end after Mary discovered her true intentions.

It’s been a quieter time in recent weeks, but Jameson revealed to Inside Soap that love could be in the air for Mary in the early parts of 2024.

“I have a love life development,” she teased. “But that’s as much as I’m allowed to say. I get asked a lot: ‘do you want Mary to settle down?’ And the answer is no – I’d miss the turbulent storylines.”

Jameson was joined in the interview by Claire King, who plays Kim Tate, with the pair being asked about the prospect of their characters forming a romantic relationship: “Well, we’ve wondered about that, haven’t we?” said King. “I think Kim’s only into the fellas.”

“Kim’s so heterosexual,” added Jameson, who has previously starred in Doctor Who and EastEnders. “Although I think Mary would be happy to form a relationship with Kim.”

Elsewhere in the Dales, Jessie Elland announced her departure from the ITV soap, with the Boxing Day (December 26) episode marking her final appearance as Chloe Harris – at least for the time being.

“I've had the best two years of my life playing Chloe and being a part of Emmerdale,” said Elland. “Over those two years, it never got any less surreal to walk through the stage door at studios or to be stood outside The Woolpack at the village.

“I feel so privileged to have been given this opportunity and to have been trusted with such wonderful storylines. I really got to tick off the soap bingo card – giving birth, discovering new family members, a big stunt, a soapy slap, and even a classic back of the taxi exit!”

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
