Emmerdale’s Mary Goskirk is to be left devastated as Suzy Merton and Vanessa Woodfield’s relationship develops.

But recently there has emerged a potential connection between her and Suzy, with the pair sharing a moment at New Year and growing closer over the last couple of months.

However, the return of Vanessa may throw a spanner in the works for Mary. Vanessa left the village for a new job in Canada in November 2022, but recently came back to support her best friend, and Mary’s daughter, Rhona.

Vanessa’s surprise visit has resulted in a permanent return to the village with her son Johnny, and there was an awkward reunion with Suzy in last night’s episode (February 27), with whom she has unfinished business.

In scenes that will air on Tuesday, March 5, Gail holds a karaoke night at The Woolpack, and Vanessa decides to use this as her chance to sing her way back into Suzy’s heart.

Her performance is a success, and Vanessa and Suzy kiss, while a heartbroken Mary watches on.

Has Mary missed the opportunity to be honest with Suzy about her feelings?

Earlier this month, Michelle Hardwick, who plays Vanessa, spoke about her character’s relationship with Suzy.

She said: "When Vanessa left, we left it on a very positive note between her and Suzy. Even though they weren’t together, they had a little kiss and it was all very lovely.

"But Vanessa is completely unaware of a potential relationship between Mary and Suzy. Mary, who Vanessa sees as a mother figure! But Vanessa is totally oblivious to this."

Teasing what might to be to come for the pair, she said: "She’s going to maybe try and get her relationship back on track with Suzy, but whether Suzy wants to or not, we’ll have to wait and see."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
