Drama series A Good Girl's Guide to Murder has finally dropped on BBC iPlayer, introducing us all to Emma Myers as Pip, a teenage girl obsessed with finding out the truth of what happened to a local girl who was said to be murdered by her boyfriend five years ago.

In the six-part series based on Holly Jackson's novel of the same name, Pip teams up with Ravi (Zain Iqbal), the younger brother of Sal, who was believed to have killed his girlfriend Andie five years ago, to uncover what really happened to Andie, and hopefully clear Sal's name.

While most of her friends are spending their summers catching up on Love Island, camping and working Saturday jobs, Pip's investigations into Andie's disappearance become the focus of her EPQ and take over her few precious weeks off school.

But what exactly is an EPQ I hear you ask? Well here's what you need to know about it.

What is an EPQ?

An EPQ is first mentioned early on in episode one of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder. Having broken up for school for the summer, Pip wanders around her hometown in the evening and meets up with her best friend Cara (Asha Banks) to tell her she's decided what she's going to do her EPQ on, which is of course solving the Andie Bell case.

If you've never heard of an EPQ before then you may have been a little bit confused watching this part of the show. An EPQ or Extended Project Qualification can be done alongside your A-Levels and counts as half an A-Level or 28 UCAS points.

The EPQ allows a student to lead their own project, and research a topic that isn't covered on their usual A-Level syllabus. They then write up a written report, as well as a log documenting the time they spent on the project, and in some cases create a physical artefact or performance too.

While it doesn't replace doing an A-Level it can definitely help boost chances of getting into a student's desired university, and as we know Pip wants to get into Cambridge, so she's likely doing everything she can to up her chances.

Although, a project about how a local girl died? Yeah we're not too sure how well that will go down.
