Escaped Cows Roam Highway After Trailer Tips Over on Interstate 5 in Oregon

Interstate 5 in Oregon was shut down for three hours after a cattle trailer tipped over on March 13, letting over 30 dairy cows loose on the highway.

Footage by Dave Tragethon shows the trailer, which had toppled over near the Wilsonville Road exit, lying on its side as a number of cows roamed among the traffic.

“We were about three or four vehicles back, behind two semis, from the accident when we noticed cows on the freeway,” Tragethon told Storyful. “All vehicles came to a stop as the cows wandered and ran by our vehicle.”

The surviving cattle were herded and loaded into another livestock trailer, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue said in a tweet, and also stated that the driver “did not require medical transport.” Credit: Dave Tragethon via Storyful
