‘Has everyone been saying it wrong?’: Sir Elton John ‘wins the Brit Awards’ after mispronouncing Ed Sheeran's name

Sir Elton John left viewers baffled after he struggled to correctly pronounce Ed Sheeran’s name at the BRIT Awards.

The legendary musician had the honour of revealing Sheeran had received the Global Success award at Wednesday night’s ceremony.

Sir Elton heaped praise on his “dear friend” - but viewers were soon questioning their friendship after the Rocket Man singer pronounced “Sheeran” as “Sheran”.

Speaking via a video message in Los Angeles, Sir Elton said: “I'm so sorry I couldn't be there in person but I wouldn't miss the opportunity to talk about one of my dear friends.

“For the very first time I heard Ed Sheeran I knew he would be a huge star across the world.”

Twitter was soon in hysterics over Sir Elton’s take on the Perfect singer’s name with one declaring it the ceremony’s best moment.

Others questioned why no one had checked that Sir Elton knew how to say “Sheeran” with one user tweeting: “Why didn’t anyone tell Elton John he’s pronouncing BFF Ed Sheeran’s name wrong?? brits2018.”

Another joked: “Things to remember when organising the Brits- make sure the host's clothes fit, pick songs without swear words, don't let Damon albarn drink and make sure Elton knows how to pronounce Ed Sheeran's name!”

A third posted: “I LIVE for the fact Elton John mispronounces Ed Sheeran EVERY time with no intention of correcting it. I wish I could give that few f**** #BRITs.”
