In the years since Euphoria last aired, fans have clamored for updates on Season 3 of the drama. The popular HBO Max show spawned countless memes, inspired glitter-heavy beauty trends, and hard launched cast members like Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi into stardom during its first two seasons. Interest reached a fever pitch ahead of the Euphoria Season 2 finale which aired on February 27, 2022. Countless viewers took to X, formerly Twitter, to discuss theories and potential plot twists, helping crown Euphoria the most-tweeted-about-show of the decade (to date).

Now that the dust has more than settled, the fandom is back to wondering when Euphoria Season 3 will air, and, in some cases, if it will come back at all – especially in light of delays due to the SAG and WGA strikes, other major projects the actors are filming, and reports that creator Sam Levinson and HBO still haven’t finished the scripts.

On March 25, an HBO spokesperson confirmed another delay in an interview with Variety, saying, “HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season.” The rep added, “in the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”

Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming season.

The Cast of ‘Euphoria’ Season 3

Many of the show’s cast will return for the third season, including Zendaya as Rue Bennett and Hunter Schafer as Jules Vaugh. Jacob Elordi (Nate Jacobs), Alexa Demie (Maddy Perez), Sydney Sweeney (Cassie Howard), Dominic Fike (Elliott), and Maude Apatow (Lexi Howard) will also be returning. Eric Dane (Cal Jacobs) is also expected to be back for the third season in a “redemption” storyline, the actor said in an interview with Variety.

It’s unknown whether Ash (Javon Walton) will be in Euphoria Season 3.

The Season Premiere of ‘Euphoria’ Season 3

In November 2023, HBO announced that the third season of Euphoria was slated for release in 2025, citing the ongoing strikes and Levinson’s work writing The Idol for the delay.

However, just weeks after Sydney Sweeney told MTV in a March 12, 2024 interview that she was finally heading back into filming Euphoria’s third season, the network announced another setback, revealing that the scripts were still being written and that HBO was also working around their in-demand casts’s other commitments. According to Deadline, a 2025 release is still the goal.

The Euphoria Season 2 finale left viewers with questions about Rue’s sobriety, as well as the fate of Ash and Fez after both were shot by police.

Not much is known about the plot of Euphoria’s third season, but in August 2023, Levinson told Elle as part of Zendaya’s cover story interview that it will be a “film noir.” He also revealed that the season would “explore what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world” from Rue’s point of view.

The Dune 2 actress also weighed in on the upcoming season, telling Extra, "I would like to explore Rue's sobriety and that journey for her. We see her in the midst of it. It would be nice to see her closer to the other side." She also shared that she hopes Euphoria’s third season brings “a little bit of happiness and a little bit of joy” to the characters after the dark previous seasons.

Seeing Rue further along in her journey might be possible, as the characters may no longer be in high school when the show resumes.

Heidi Bivens, Euphoria's costume designer, told Vogue in an April 2023 interview that season 3 may take place "approximately five years in the future" when all the characters are no longer at East Highland.

Sweeney weighed in on the rumored time jump in an interview with Who What Wear that was published on March 27, saying she hoped fans would get to see a different side of her character who’d started dressing like Maddy and had just gotten dumped by Nate and the end of season 2.

“I actually like it because there’s so much room for growth for both me as a person and also Cassie as a character,” Sweeney told the publication. She stayed mum on what that would look like, just teasing that the season is “going to be very, very wild.”
