'What evidence have you got?' Susanna Reid lays into GMB guest who says 'vegans are annoying'

Susanna Reid found herself in a heated debate with a Good Morning Britain guest on Wednesday who described vegans as ‘annoying’.

Irish talk show host Niall Boylan appeared on the ITV morning programme to discuss veganism, following the recent news that Waitrose Food editor William Sitwell joked about “killing vegans one by one”.

‘They’re just annoying people,” said Boylan. “I spoke recently to one of my staff and she said ‘by the way, I just want you to know I’m a vegan’, and I said, ‘Ok, what’s that about?’ I thought it was funny.

‘She said, ‘one of my friends is a vegan, so I just thought it was a good thing to tell people I’m a vegan’. She lasted a week and a half.’

Asked by Piers Morgan’s stand-in presenter Adil Ray why he lets vegans annoy him, Boylan replied: ‘It’s nothing to do with me, but you can’t invite them out, you can’t go anywhere with them. They’re moaning at the waiter, ‘does that have gluten in it?”

A frustrated Reid then interjected, stating that gluten has nothing to do with veganism, to which Boylan replied: ‘Vegans, normally, there’s a trend. Vegans, they normally move onto gluten as well, because they like to get into all the fads.’

Reid then angrily asked Boylan to present the facts that prove vegans move onto gluten.

He replied: ‘They do. The average vegan starts at 16 years of age, usually because a mate is doing it. 60% of them drop out of this ‘diet’ after about six months. It’s not even a diet. A diet sets a target.’

While trying to make his point, Boylan was interrupted by Piers Morgan’s stand-in presenter Adil Ray, who accused the guest of generalising. But Boylan reiterated that’s it a fact that the majority of vegans take on the diet because another friend did, and that they also give it up after roughly six months.
