Former Aberdeen star Lewis Ferguson has been awarded the prestigious Bulgarelli Number 8 award, recognising him as the best midfielder in Italy. The accolade comes after an impressive season with Serie A's Bologna.

The 24 year old was presented with the award by ex-AC Milan and England manager Fabio Capello in Salaborsa.

Despite a season-ending injury in April, Ferguson managed to score six goals and provide four assists for Champions League hopefuls Bologna, accepting his award on crutches.

The esteemed award is given by the Associazione Bulgarelli and Italian Footballers' Association in honour of former Bologna midfielder Giacomo Bulgarelli, who played for the club from 1969 to 1975.

Past recipients of the Bulgarelli award include football greats Andrea Pirlo and Daniele De Rossi, reports the Daily Record.

Simone Inzaghi of Inter Milan received the Best Coach award, while legendary Juventus and Parma goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon was honoured with a lifetime achievement award.
