Ex-prison officer accused of having sex with HMP Wandsworth inmate appears in court

An ex-prison officer accused of having sex with an inmate at HMP Wandsworth has appeared in court.

Linda De Sousa Abreu appeared in court charged with misconduct in public office after a video circulated allegedly showing a guard having sex with an inmate at the category B men's prison.

Last week footage circulated online allegedly showing a prisoner and member of staff engaging in sex acts in a prison cell. Linda De Sousa Abreu appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court today having been charged with misconduct- The Mirror reports.

De Sousa Abreu, of Fulham, southwest London, was told the charge against her alleges that, between June 26 and 28, while acting as a public officer, namely an HMP Wandsworth prison officer, she wilfully and without reasonable excuse or justification misconducted herself in a way which amounted to an abuse of the public's trust in the office holder by engaging in a sexual act with a prisoner in a prison cell.

Magistrate Julie Cooke bailed De Sousa Abreu but barred her from entering any UK travel ports and made her subject to a curfew, monitored by an electronic tag. Addressing De Sousa Abreu, who appeared in the dock wearing a custody-issue grey tracksuit, the magistrate said: "This matter before us today is indictable only and has to be heard at the crown court.

"You will be at the crown court July 29, this year. It will be Isleworth Crown Court, you need to be there for 9.30 ready for 10 o'clock and that will be for a plea and trial preparation hearing."

De Sousa Abreu was seen leaving court wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, and brown leggings with white socks and trainers. She left court carrying a large brown suitcase, and pulled the hood further over her face while sat in the back seat of a car as photographers tried to take photos of her.
