Fantastic free events among summer line-up for Watford

A line-up of exciting and mostly free events has been announced by Watford Borough Council for the summer and beyond.

Among the highlights is the Watford Fringe Festival scheduled to run from July 1 to August 4. It is expected to be larger than previous years and will spotlight talents in various performances, art exhibitions and cultural events.

Residents can also look forward to art exhibitions at Cheslyn House and Gardens from May to October.

For jazz lovers, mark July 28 in your calendar for the Big Jiveswing Festival, one of the UK's largest free Jazz Festivals, which promises a nostalgic journey to the jazz era with performances by popular artists.

Filmgoers are also catered for with multiple screenings taking place in Watford from August 5 to 18.

Starting in the town centre, the Big Screen will showcase a diverse range of films from August 5 to 11 before moving to Knutsford Playing Fields from August 12 to 18.

For those longing for the beach, The Parade in the town centre will transform into the Big Beach from August 16 to 30, providing a seaside experience for visitors.

Another event, Colourscape, will run from August 17 to 26, presenting an immersive and colourful art installation comprising 70 interlinked chambers, each adorned with intense and vibrant colours.

People can also discover musicians and dancers performing.

Herts Pride, Hertfordshire's largest LGBTQ+ festival, is set for August 31 and will celebrate Watford's inclusive spirit, promoting equality, love, and acceptance while showcasing the vibrant LGBTQ+ community's talents and contributions.

Cassiobury Park will also be hosting two events that celebrate culture and community on June 29 and on October 4 and 5, visitors will get to experience the Hertfordshire Oktoberfest.

On November 2, residents will get to experience a mesmerising fireworks event, where the night sky will be filled with an assortment of lights and colours.

Watford mayor Peter Taylor said: "I am thrilled to announce that we are funding another exciting line-up of community events and experiences for residents and visitors to enjoy this summer and beyond.

"With a huge range of activities, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

"By ensuring most of these events are free, we hope to make them as accessible to residents as possible.
