Popular Spanish fashion retailer Mango is making a return to the Metrocentre, it has been revealed.

The international clothing company operated a store in the Gateshead shopping, dining and leisure destination until closing its doors in the red mall a number of years ago. Now, however, centre bosses Sovereign Centros from CBRE has announced that the company has signed up for new space in the mall. The brand is set to join the centre’s lower red mall later this year, opening its largest store in the region to date.

Mango will bring its Mediterranean-inspired assortment of womenswear and menswear to the Metrocentre this summer in a new 6,233 sq ft unit adjacent to Jo Malone, close to other retailers Zara, H&M and Flannels. Ben Cox, director at Sovereign Centros from CBRE, said Mango will be a welcome addition to the destination while reinforcing the centre’s ability to sign up top notch retail brands.

Mr Cox said: “Introducing Mango to Metrocentre brings an added dimension to an already compelling fashion offer. Mango will be a highly complementary addition to our Red Mall line up, which has seen significant investment and an abundance of new commitments over the last twelve months.

“We prove time and time again that we really are the go-to destination for retail, and we look forward to seeing Mango thrive here at Metrocentre.”

The move follows the news that Footasylum has opened into a larger unit within the centre, increasing its presence by 25%. Last week the centre also confirmed that beauty brand Sephora is set to open in the platinum mall.

Metrocentre has also seen a flurry of new investment with shops including Sports Direct, Flannels, and Zara expanding their units in the red mall. Meanwhile, ProCook, a specialist kitchenware brand, will be launching a store in the green mall. Victoria’s Secret, the well-known lingerie brand, and Clarks is also on the move into the green mall.
