Concerns have been expressed over the state of Bradford's historic Little Germany following damage to an apartment block in a Grade II listed building.

Gallon House has been splattered in a large amount of black paint which has also splashed over the pavement and an entrance door. The paint has been present for several days already and by Thursday morning, April 25, had not been removed.

Apartment owners have been left furious by the damage. People who live and work in the area have expressed concerns over several months about other problems such as fly tipping and antisocial behaviour.

One local said the Gallon House looked 'terrible' covered in paint. And Councillor Si Cunningham, who is chairman of Bradford Civic Society, said the vandalism was worrying.

He told YorkshireLive: "Little Germany is one of the country's most impressive concentrations of buildings and is remarkably well preserved.

"It's worrying to see buildings like this covered in paint or graffiti, and I hope the owners will take appropriate steps to take care of their property.

"My bigger concern is that a loosening of national planning regulations could lead to a saturation of poor quality residential conversions if we don't intervene soon.

"Everyone I speak to in Bradford is very passionate about our heritage and architecture, and I'm delighted that the Council is now actively pursuing heritage-led regeneration opportunities for the city centre. We need private building owners to play their part, and national government to help us preserve the integrity of places like Little Germany."

In February, Little Germany residents and businesses raised concerns about people dumping waste in the area. Fears have also been expressed about crime and drug misuse problems.

Office workers have claimed the area is not safe at night due to 'unsavoury characters'.
