Fire Breaks Out as Water Rescues Underway in Flooded Manville, New Jersey

Smoke billowed into the air from a fire in Manville, New Jersey, even as water rescues were still underway on September 2, after the remnants of Hurricane Ida flooded the area the day before, NBC New York reported.

This footage by local resident Jay Dee shows rescuers with an inflatable boat wading into floodwaters as smoke can be seen in the background. Firefighters could not reach fires because of the flooding, reports said.

More than 40 people were known to have died during the severe weather on September 1 in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut, US media reported. Credit: Jay Dee via Storyful
