Fire at 'derelict' building in Cambridgeshire village believed to be deliberate

A fire at a derelict building in a Cambridgeshire village on Friday (June 28) is believed to have been started deliberately. Fire crews were called to the building fire in Longstanton's Station Road at 1.03am.

Firefighters from Cambridge and Cottenham found a derelict portable building on fire. They extinguished it and returned to their stations by 4am.

A Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Crews arrived to find a derelict portacabin on fire. Wearing breathing apparatus firefighters used a hose reel to extinguish the fire before returning to their stations by 4am.

"The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate. Anyone with information should contact police by visiting www.cambs.police.uk to submit an online report or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."
