Dozens of firefighters worked through the night after a huge fire near tourist attraction Cadbury World in Birmingham.

The blaze broke out an employees' social club, opposite the Bournville factory, on Friday shortly before 5pm, while staff were still inside.

West Midlands Fire Service said it was unclear how the fire started. Flames engulfed the whole two-storey brick-built building and led to the collapse of its roof.

Footage on social media showed thick black smoke pouring out of the building, which has been used as a social club by Cadbury employees for more than three decades.

There were no reported injuries, but people were told to avoid the road and surrounding area and Bournville Lane remained closed on Saturday morning.

A fire service spokeswoman said crews were called off at around 6.40am after working through the night, with 45 firefighters and nine crews involved.

She said the Cadbury Club was “100 per cent involved in fire” and the “roof is fully collapsed”.

It follows another large fire in Birmingham, with enquiries ongoing into a blaze which destroyed a plastics factory in the Tyseley Industrial Estate in the city’s south-east.
