Ricky Gervais is heading back to screens soon, and here’s the first look at his new sitcom for Netflix, After Life.

The creator of The Office will be playing widower Tony in the six-part series, which he’s written, directed and is also starring in.

Per the official synopsis: “Tony (Ricky Gervais) had a perfect life. But after his wife Lisa dies, Tony changes.

“After contemplating taking his own life, he decides instead to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever he likes from now on.

“He thinks it’s like a Super Power — not caring about himself or anyone else — but it turns out to be tricky when everyone is trying to save the nice guy they used to know.”

Gervais, who’s been off screens since the 2016 David Brent movie (bar one Netflix comedy special last year), will be joined by some familiar faces in the show.

Kerry Godliman, who starred alongside him in his last sitcom, Derek, is on the bill, as is his Extras co-star Ashley Jensen.

Also appearing are Roisin Conaty, Penelope Wilton, Tom Basden, David Earl, Jo Hartley and Diane Morgan.

It airs on Netflix from March 8.
