Florence and the Machine have cancelled their UK tour after Florence Welch broke her foot on stage last week.

Welch was injured on the opening night of her tour at London's O2 Arena on Friday, 18 November but completed the show in full.

The singer confirmed the news to her fans on Instagram, writing: "I'm so sorry to say that after an X-ray it seems I was dancing on a broken foot last night.

"It is not in my nature to postpone a show, and certainly not a UK tour but I'm in pain and, as dancers know, dancing on an injury is not a good idea."

She added that she had been "told not to perform to avoid further damage" and was looking to reschedule the rest of her UK tour dates for some time in 2023.

Welch urged fans to "hang on" to their tickets for the rearranged dates in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, Nottingham and Dublin.

She concluded her message to her fans by saying: "I love you so much, and I'm so sorry to anyone who is disappointed. My heart is aching. I can't wait to be back on my feet and back in your arms."

Welch, who is known for performing barefoot, has previously broken a bone in her foot while performing. While jumping from the stage at the 2015 edition of Coachella, the musician broke a metatarsal.

The Brit Award winner was touring in support of her latest album Dance Fever which went to number one when it was released in May. It was her fourth number one album in the UK and received critical acclaim.

It was also the group's first release since 2018's High as Hope.
