Former Home and Away star Christie Hayes is the latest Australian star to swap soaps, as it's been confirmed today that she'll be heading across to Neighbours in a guest role to shake things up in Erinsborough.

Christie starred as Kirsty Phillips in Home and Away for two stints between 2000 and 2005 and again from 2008 to 2009, during which time she was involved in one of the soap's most controversial storylines when she knowingly started a relationship with Kane Phillips, who sexually assaulted her sister.

But now she'll be heading to Ramsay Street in a new role, where her character will be thrown in at the deep end and quickly embroiled in a complex love triangle.

"I am so lucky to join the cast of Neighbours, it's a dream come true," Christie said of the casting news.

"Literally a dream I had a while back I was working on the series and now I am! I was beyond excited and cried when I found out I had the role because I love acting. It is the best professional experience I have had in television and I love waking up every day to play my character.

"I can't wait to keep going further in the storyline, there are a lot of layers to her."

Since leaving Home and Away behind, Christie has gone on to have two children, and landed a job on the radio – co-hosting a breakfast radio show on Illawarra's i98fm.

Christie is now set to begin filming in June, with her character making her debut later in the year.

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5.
