Former Newcastle United star Nabil Bentaleb hospitalised after suffering suspected heart attack

Love and support was pouring in for ex-Newcastle United midfielder Nabil Bentaleb last night after the player was rushed to hospital in France.

The 29-year-old has been hit with a "mystery illness" and remains under the care of medics. Bentaleb played for Newcastle in the 2019/20 season making 15 appearances and helping the Magpies reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

The Algeria star's current club Lille released a statement last night reading: "LOSC informs that Nabil Bentaleb suffered a mystery illness on the evening of Tuesday June 18. The player was immediately taken into care and sent to Lille University Hospital for hospitalisation.

Speaking warmly of his time at Newcastle in 2020, Bentaleb had said: "There's no doubt that my time at Newcastle was very good for me. I am very grateful to Newcastle for the opportunity that the club have me."

Newcastle fans TV posted on X: "Our thoughts and prayers are with former #NUFC midfielder, Nabil Bentaleb who has been hospitalised due to a suspected heart attack." The midfielder played for Schalke 04, Tottenham Hotspur and Angers before signing for Lille last summer where he made 26 times.
