Cheltenham Town goalkeeper Luke Southwood suffered a broken leg during the first half of Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Stevenage.

It was his 99th appearance for the club and his 92nd successive League One start, but it was cut short in the 27th minute when he landed awkwardly dealing with a high ball into the box.

After receiving treatment on the pitch, the former Reading number one was carried off on a stretcher and taken to hospital, with Jamie Pardington going on from the bench in his place.

Pardington performed well on his Cheltenham debut, pulling off two excellent saves in the second half after conceding a penalty in first-half stoppage time.

The 23-year-old could do nothing about Stevenage's 90th minute winner, which saw Nick Freeman's shot take a deflection on its way into the bottom left corner of the net.

The result condemned Cheltenham to relegation after three years in League One and both Southwood and Pardington are out of contract this summer.

The squad's third goalkeeper, Max Harris, has one year to run on his deal and he spent most of this season on loan at National League South club Weston-super-Mare, building his senior experience.
