Four people rescued from yacht dangerously drifting in bad weather conditions

A  47ft yacht was towed to safety after it began dangerously drifting in bad weather conditions at night.

Harwich RNLI responded to an urgent distress call from a 47ft yacht six miles east of Naze Tower at Walton at 9.27pm on Saturday, April 27.

The vessel was drifting towards the shore.

In a coordinated effort, the all-weather life boat was launched to the yachts location following a call for assistance from Dover Coastguard.

Upon arrival at the scene four people were rescued and it was determined the safest option was to tow the vessel.

Despite challenging weather conditions the crew successfully towed the yacht to safety into Shotley Marina where it was handed over to Coastguard Rescue Team units from Shotley and Holbrook, ensuring the safety and well-being of all on board.

At Harwich Lifeboat Station the crew restored the towing hear to prepare for any future emergencies.
