Four Tosin Adarabioyo transfer alternatives for Newcastle United including Chelsea favourite

Newcastle United look to have been gazumped in the race for Tosin Adarabioyo after Chelsea's swoop for the out of contract Fulham star.

The Magpies are still hoping to secure Bournemouth's Lloyd Kelly on a free in the coming weeks but with Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles both out with anterior cruciate ligaments injuries until the business end of the year, Eddie Howe and his transfer team are assessing extra options in that area of the pitch.

Landing Adarabioyo would have freed up crucial funds to be spent elsewhere but if Newcastle are going to deploy their summer kitty on additional defensive reinforcements, who could they opt for?

Trevoh Chalobah

After Chelsea's late swoop, Newcastle could take their revenge on the west London outfit by poaching one of their fan-favourites.

Trevor Chalobah, 24, is one of many centre-backs jostling for position at Stamford Bridge but is now being linked with a move away amid Adarabioyo's arrival. Chelsea are said to value the academy graduate at £25m, which could prove a shrewd deal for any potential suitors.

Chalobah, should he stay, will be battling it out with Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi and Levi Colwill. A move away in search of first-team minutes seems feasible this summer.

Goncalo Inacio

Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio has been linked with Newcastle in the past but also has attracted attention from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United. The 22-year-old's contract contains a £52 million release clause, meaning he won't come cheap for any interested party in the coming months.

Inacio has already racked up over 100 league appearances and has proved comfortable with the ball at his feet. The youngster will be at the European Championships with Portugal this summer which could open the door for a Premier League switch.

Marc Guehi

Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi has been linked with moves to Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in recent months, while Chelsea are said to have a buy-back option for their former star. Newcastle could do a lot worse than join the race for the England international.

Reports suggest Palace will seek £50m for the central defender, who has formed a solid partnership with Joachim Andersen at Selhurst Park. Guehi is in Gareth Southgate's provisional Euro 2024 squad with the likes of Anthony Gordon and Kieran Trippier, who will know all about the 23-year-old's talent.

Maxence Lacroix

Another name linked with Newcastle in previous windows is Wolfsburg's Maxence Lacroix. A lesser known name to some, the centre-back has proved one of the Bundesliga's hottest talents in recent seasons.

The 24-year-old is reportedly available for a fee of around €30m [£25m] this summer and is destined for a career at some of Europe's finest clubs.

A solid option that wouldn't break the bank. One that Newcastle scouts have watched in the past.
