The news that Bradley Walsh had been 'confirmed' (note: the BBC haven't said anything about it) as the companion to Jodie Whittaker's newest Doctor came completely out of the blue.

But one person who is totally down with the idea of it though, is Freema Agyeman, who played Martha Jones in series three of the revived Doctor Who.

Speaking to The Guardian, Freema said, "Is it true that Bradley Walsh is going to be the new assistant? I think he will be brilliant at that."

She also added that she's "overjoyed that we have Jodie" and added that her casting came "not a moment too soon, really."

"She's perfect casting, and it's definitely the right time."

Well, you might think Freema is just bigging up Bradley as a massive fan of The Chase, but her connection to him - and his connection to Doctor Who - actually goes further than you think.

First of all, Bradley appeared in two episodes of the CBBC Who spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures. He also starred in Law & Order: UK alongside Freema, where the showrunner was none other than... the new Doctor Who boss Chris Chibnall!

We won't be getting the next series of Who until late 2018 as it stands, but we wouldn't be too surprised if details about Whittaker's companion aren't too far off.

Next up though is Peter Capaldi's send-off, 'Twice Upon a Time,' which will air on Christmas Day on BBC One.
