Yahoo News Friends reunion: Jennifer Aniston ‘very sad’ at delay but says ‘it’s not a safe time to do it’
Jennifer Aniston has reacted to news of the long-awaited Friends reunion being delayed yet again, saying she is “very sad” it’s been postponed.
The unscripted HBO Max special was originally scheduled to shoot mid-March. When productions were shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was then pushed back to May, and then again to August.
On Friday (7 August), it was announced the special would be delayed again as America’s grim death rate continues to accelerate.
Speaking about the new delay, Aniston told Deadline: “Unfortunately it’s very sad that we had to move it again. It was, ‘How do we do this with live audiences?’ This is not a safe time. Period. That’s the bottom line. It’s not a safe time to do it.”
She added: “It’s going to be super. You know what? This has also given us more time to make it even more exciting and more fun than it would have been. So I choose to see it as the glass is half full that it got postponed. Look, we’re not going anywhere. You’re never going to get rid of Friends, sorry. You’re stuck with us for life, guys.”
Aniston will be joined by fellow Friends stars Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry in the special.
It will mark the first time that all six stars are reunited in front of the cameras. A partial reunion happened in 2016 without Perry.
