One of the most intriguing cliffhangers from the final episode of Game of Thrones was the question of where Drogon was bringing Daenerys' body after she was stabbed by Jon Snow. Near the end of the episode Samwell Tarly points out that Drogon was last seen flying east. As John Bradley, who plays Sam on the show, told me after the episode, that can't mean anything good:

[Drogon] is probably going to get up to his adventures presumably he's still fueled by grief and the bitterness of that. And I think that if you can think of it as there's still a dragon out there that's fueled by anger and fueled by grief and stills got a sense of bitterness then nobody is going to quite sleep easy in their beds.

He's definitely right there. No one wants a dragon on the loose seeking vengeance.

The most obvious answer after the episode was that Drogon was flying Daenerys' body to Old Valyria, where he would lay her to rest with her ancestors. But what if there's a more interesting theory about where Drogon is going with Daenerys?

One Reddit fan theory says that Drogon is taking Daenerys to Asshai, where she will be resurrected and become the Undead Dragon Queen of the Shadowlands.

As this fan explains:

Asshai is a port city on the easternmost side of the map in the Shadowlands. The Shadowlands are a massive region in which Asshai exists. Thus Asshai is often called Asshai by the Shadow. The city located where the Ash River meets the Jade Sea. It is allegedly big enough to contain Kings Landing, Oldtown, Qarth, and Volantis combined, but its population is very small, that of an average market town. There’s a lot of ominous stuff about this region, you can read up on it more from the wiki. The river runs black, no children live here and no animals or fruit survive. There is a corpse city called Stygi that nobody knows much about. The whole area is rumored to be a land of shadows, demons, ghosts, and dragons (Except the dragons aren’t rumored, they are heavily implied).

Warlocks, spellbinders, shadowcasters, and the whole shebang are allowed to practice in Asshai. Melisandre notes that the magic power she feels at the wall is similar to that she feels in Asshai. Nothing is forbidden. There is no government that anyone knows of, only slaves and their masters.

Asshai is a land of dragons. The eggs Dany are given are reportedly from the Shadowlands beyond Asshai. Bran sees dragons above the Shadowlands in his visions. The magic of Westeros isn’t connected to the magic in these lands. It has never stopped there.

This fan points to a key moment in the story, where Quaithe tells Dany, "To go north, you must journey south, to reach the west you must go east. To go forward you must go back, and to touch the light you must pass beneath the shadow."

But let's also consider the most well-known person from Asshai in Game of Thrones. Her name is Melisandre. As the Game of Thrones wiki explains of Melisandre:

Originally born a slave in Essos centuries ago, Melisandre is a Red Priestess of the Lord of Light, a deity that is not widely worshiped in Westeros. Hailing from Asshai, a country located in the far east of the continent of Essos, she claims to wield powerful magical abilities, particularly the power of prophecy. Melisandre wears a large ruby necklace that seems to glow whenever she performs her magic. This same necklace also hides her ageing, presumably prolonging her life in the process. Some years ago, she crossed the Narrow Sea, almost four centuries old, and came to the court of Lord Stannis Baratheon on the island stronghold of Dragonstone, to preach her faith. Stannis and the majority of his household then converted to her religion, and she became a close adviser to Stannis himself, believing him to be the the Prince that was Promised of ancient prophecy; the reincarnation of Azor Ahai.

As we all know, a Red Priestess like Melisandre from Asshai has the ability to resurrect a person. What's interesting is we never see an actual conclusion to her prophecies of Azor Ahai in the show. Is it possible that the reincarnation of this ancient hero is still yet to happen? Is it possible that that will happen in Asshai with Dany?
