Game of Thrones season 8 will film multiple endings to avoid leaks

The latest news to come out of Westeros concerns remedying the problem of plot leaks.

According to Morning Call, one of the show’s producers, Casey Bloys, dropped the news when quizzed over how the HBO show intends to avoid the leaks that happened across season seven.

“I know in Game of Thrones, the ending, they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that nobody really know what happens,” Bloys revealed.

“You have to do that on a long show. Because when you’re shooting something, people know. So they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that there’s no real definitive answer until the end.”

It’s a frank assessment of arguably one of he biggest shows ever, and with the final season on the way it’s likely that hacks and episode leaks won’t be the only problem the production faces. As with plenty of film and TV nowadays, people can quite easily sneak photos and video with a smart phone after stumbling upon or sneaking onto a set. Online hackers threatening to release episodes is another problem for the modern age.

“Finales are tough,” he said to a room of students in Pennsylvania during a talk Bloys was giving.

“If you think about Six Feet Under, well that was a pretty good finale. But if you think about Seinfeld, if you think about The Sopranos, if you think about Breaking Bad – everybody has an opinion about how a show should end.”

Game of Thrones writers will certainly be feeling to pressure to get it right – but what is ‘right’?

Everyone’s got an opinion over who should rule, who will die, and what the final outcome should be.

Season eight will air in 2019 after its six episodes (and alternative endings) begin production next month. With author George RR Martin having yet to write the books that conclude the epic fantasy story, fans are completely in the dark over how the whole thing will end and who will come out on top in The Great War.

What’s interesting here is those alternative endings and what each will consist of. Already, fans are drooling over seeing the fake endings, despite having absolutely no clue how it’ll all conclude.

Who will be left standing?

Who will be alive to claim the Iron Throne?

Will those damn White Walkers wipe every living being out?

If we’ve learned anything over the course of seven seasons it’s that Game of Thrones relentlessly throws anything and everything at you and has no problem killing off the characters you hold most dear. So the odds of losing Tyrion, Daenerys, Sansa, Arya, Tormund, Brienne, Jaime, or even Jon are highly probable. Then there’s Cersei who, as a mad Queen set to betray the Starks and Targaryens, will no doubt sport the biggest target on her head.
