The existing Taunton Deane constituency has been held by Defra minister Rebecca Pow since 2015. But the new Taunton and Wellington seat will retain Somerset’s county town and the surrounding villages.

However, it will lose Wiveliscombe and settlements like Bishops Lydeard at the southern end of the Quantock Hills to the neighbouring Tiverton and Minehead seat. The new constituency of Taunton and Wellington effectively splits the former seat of Taunton Deane in half.

The focus is now more firmly on the county town and the neighbouring market town of Wellington. It's because the western and entirely rural portion of the old constituency has become part of a new Tiverton and Minehead seat.

Candidates from Labour, Liberal Democrats, the Conservatives, Green Party, the Communist Party and Reform UK are standing,

  • Gideon Amos (Lib Dem)

  • Charles Hansard (Reform UK)

  • Rebecca Pow (Conservative

  • Rochelle Russell (Communist Party of Britain)

  • Ryan Trower (Green Party)

  • Brenda Weston (Labour).
