From Good Housekeeping

At the GHI, we're always on the lookout for products that are sustainable or provide 'greener' choices.

So, naturally, when we heard about the Ecoegg —an innovative laundry capsule that claims to wash clothes with no harmful chemicals — we had to put it to the test. Here's what we found...

What is the Ecoegg and how does it work?

Looking for a greener way to wash your clothes? The Ecoegg is a refillable egg-shaped capsule which washes with non-biological natural mineral pellets.

Simply add the egg to your laundry load to replace detergent and fabric conditioner. It contains no harmful chemicals and the supplied pellets will give you 70 washes worth before you need to top up, meaning you will save up to 40 bottles of plastic each year just by switching.

How did the Ecoegg perform on test?

On test, we found that stain removal was best on cottons, washing out 90% or more of blood, baby food and sebum.

However, it did somewhat struggle when washing synthetics in comparison, with only 67% of stains removed on average. So you may want to stick to your regular detergent for your polycottons.

What's the GHI verdict on the Ecoegg?

Despite it struggling with some stains, the Ecoegg is a great solution for those who want to be greener, or struggle with sensitive skin. If you want to give it a spin during your next laundry load, it can be purchased from Ecoegg.com for £9.99
