Girl, 10, dies in Bradford house fire with woman and three children rushed to hospital

A 10-year-old girl has died in a house fire in Bradford .

A woman, aged 37, and three other children aged three, six and 11, managed to escape the blaze on Kingsdale Drive which happened in the early hours of Sunday morning (May 5).

Police were called to the property at around 1.05am. The woman and three children managed to escape the property and were taken to hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not life-threatening, a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police has confirmed.

A fourth child was found inside the address and was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

Devastated neighbours have placed flowers at the scene and told Yorkshire Live that the children had been playing outside just hours before the tragedy. One said: “I’m devastated to hear there’s been a tragedy”

Another local mum said she had seen the children previously playing in the garden and was shocked to hear what had happened. “It’s really sad especially after having seen them playing out.”

A neighbour, who was placing flowers at the scene, said she was woken by her dogs and saw the bedroom was on fire. “I said that’s the girls bedroom - I shouted to the fire brigade. I didn’t know they had got three out already. The fire brigade went straight in”

The woman’s neighbour added: “I’m absolutely gutted - it’s my daughter’s friend.”

A police scene remains in place at the address and police are working with the fire investigators to establish the exact cause of the fire, a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said. The cause is not thought to be suspicious.

Detective Chief Inspector Zaheer Abbas of Bradford District Police said: “This is an absolutely tragic incident in which a young child has lost her life, our thoughts are with her family at this time.

“Our investigation with the fire service has deemed that the fire was not suspicious.

“The family are being supported by specially trained officers, a file will now be prepared for the coroner in due course.”
