Girl, seven, gets a reply from Google CEO to handwritten letter about a job

When seven-year-old Chloe Bridgewater said she wanted to work for Google, her dad Andy suggested she write to the tech giant asking for a job.

She did – but the family were stunned when they got a reply from the global company’s CEO Sundar Pichai just four days later.

Chloe decided to write to the company after her dad showed her Google’s headquarters.

In her letter, which opens “Dear Google boss”, she referred to the company’s use of bean bags and slides, saying: “I like computers too and have a tablet I play games on. My dad told me to give you a application to get a job in Google.

“I don’t really know what one of them is but he said a letter will do for now. I have only ever sent one other letter and that was to Father Christmas. Good bye.”

Chloe, from Hereford, sent the handwritten note to Sundar Pichai at Google’s headquarters in California 5,200 miles and was stunned to receive a reply just four days later, signed by the CEO himself.

In the typed letter, Mr Pichai said he hoped Chloe would continue to learn about technology, writing: “I think if you keep working hard and following your dreams, you can accomplish everything you set your mind to – from working at Google to swimming at the Olympics.”

Over the moon – Andy and Chloe couldn’t believe they received a reply

He added: “I look forward to receiving your job application when you are finished with school!

Chloe’s dad, sales manager Andy Bridgewater, 37, said his daughter was “over the moon” with the missive.

He said Chloe had picked his brains about his job: “She asked where I would work if I could choose anywhere and I said Google.

“After I showed her their headquarters she decided she wanted to work there too so I told her to write a letter and we would post it.”

Family – Andy Bridgewater, 37, and wife Julie, 41, with daughters Chloe, 7, and Hollie, 5.

He said when a reply arrived just four days later, he left it for Chloe to open.

“We were gobsmacked but I don’t think Chloe could understand the magnitude of the reaction she’d got afterwards.

“Mr Pichai is extremely busy and earns millions every day but it is incredible to think he took time out to write a letter to my daughter and sign it.”

Chloe isn’t necessarily a “tech nerd”, Andy said, but has already shown signs of entrepreneurial spirit – cleaning the family’s kitchen for 20p.
