A new food spot in the west end is bringing the flavours of South America to Glasgow.

Casa opened recently on Great Western Road, at the spot previously occupied by the fast-food outlet BRGR, with the firm behind it stating that they are offering "food and drinks to make your day or night - breakfast, brunch, and dinner".

Dave Wade, part of the team behind Glasgow's newest spot, said: "By day, Casa is the home of catchups with the gang or the fam over coffee and rabanadas (Portuguese French toast); by night, Casa becomes the place for dates with mates - or more - over cocktails and small plates."

A breakfast and a brunch menu is available from 9am until 4pm when they take walk-ins only, so no need to phone ahead – until the evening, when booking is then available for dinner, and a choice of small plates and cocktails becomes the focus until 1am.

Speaking about the food on offer as well as some of his personal picks, Dave added: "We do eggs in all delicious ways, but our eggs benny served on homemade potato rosti is hugely popular. Veggies and vegans can rejoice at dishes also made in house and free of processed stuff.

"We’re really proud of our menu but the birria grilled cheese is my hero dish, inspired by a quick, devilish lunch at a Mexican bar in New York. It’s a hangover hero too.

"In the evening, our masa fried chicken tacos and 28-day dry aged sirloin steak (served with chimichurri, of course) are popular dishes that are great to share. Plus, the caesar and macha carrots are perhaps the tastiest way to your five-a-day."

And when it comes to drinks, Dave revealed that they worked closely with Jamie Moran of Weesht fame to curate an innovative cocktail list, while the wine list is expertly put together.

He said: "We’ve riffed on classics and incorporated Latin flavours for a creative yet approachable cocktail list.

"Our good friends at Wood Winters purvey our outstanding selection of wines. We offer the full list by the glass – as wine drinkers we know this is important – so our wine list provides excellent value on fine and natural wines."

Becoming part of the vibrant Great Western Road food and drink scene, the team believe Casa will fit right in.

Dave added: "The west end is still it, Glasgow’s best night out. But it lacks that cool brunch-bar-restaurant combination that we found in Brazil, Mexico, and New York. Casa brings it home."
