One of the biggest names in Edinburgh’s speciality coffee scene has teamed up with a top restaurant to launch a new concept in Glasgow city centre.

Machina Coffee has teamed up with Hazel, the stylish restaurant just minutes from Queen Street Station, to create the newest spot for people to get their specialty coffee fix.

The restaurant, which sits alongside the new AC Hotel by Marriott in Glasgow’s new Love Loan development, will now open from 8am for the first time serving specialty grade coffee for commuters and visitors to the city.

Machina founder Steve Glencross said: “Glasgow is an incredible city for coffee, but options in the city centre are few and far between. While there are a couple of great cafes in the city centre, the bulk of Glasgow’s specialty scene is in the west end, south side and east end.

“Since launching in 2013, we’ve seen how attitudes to specialty coffee have completely changed. The pandemic in particular opened many people’s eyes to how amazing coffee can be.

“We want to make specialty coffee accessible to all – and this is the perfect place to do just that.”

And it won't just be coffee, the team will also be offering fresh artisan goodies from the award-winning Three Sisters Bake.

Since being founded in 2011 by cake-obsessed sisters Linsey, Nichola and Gillian Reith, it has become one of the city’s most popular bakeries, famous for its sweet treats such as brownies, scones and cookies.

Hazel’s manager Katie Booth believes this new concept will prove to be popular with locals and visitors to the city alike.

She said: “Since opening in November last year, we’ve had people come up to the doors every morning asking if we’re open – it clearly looks like a great place to enjoy that first coffee of the day!

“We always look to bring something different to the table. Visiting the Glasgow Coffee festival last month really was incredibly eye opening – specialty coffee is more popular in Glasgow than ever before and we’re very proud to partner with one of the most popular roasters there to make this new concept a reality.

“We know coffee and cake go perfectly together, so we’re excited to team up with Three Sisters Bakes to bring their amazing goodies to the table. Glaswegians are in for a treat!“
