GLASGOW is set to mark Armed Forces Day with a march past the city’s Cenotaph.

The event will begin at around 11am on Saturday, June 29 with a parade leaving from Holland Street to George Square.

It will be led by the six & seven Scots Band (Lowland/Highland) followed by serving Royal Navy, Army, and RAF personnel as well as cadets from all three services and veterans.

Lord Provost Jacqueline McLaren will be joined by senior military including Lieutenant Commander Morgan McDonald of the Navy, Brigadier Gilliam Wilkinson of the army and Captain Andrew Tait of the RAF.

The Lord Provost, who is also Lord Lieutenant, will take the salute at the parade.

Baroness Goldie, Minister of State for Defence in the House of Lords, will also be in attendance.

The Lord Provost said: “Glasgow's Armed Forces Day is an opportunity to let the incredibly brave and professional men and women in our armed forces know how much we appreciate them.

"It's also a chance for our citizens to demonstrate their pride in our military personnel and our veterans.

"Inevitably too, our thoughts stray to those far from home, serving in some of the toughest places on earth.

"I’m looking forward to welcoming everyone."

Following the salute, Lord Provost McLaren will join Commander Heather Ferrie, representing HMS Dalriada, in the City Chambers to present Coronation Medals to reservists.

All are welcome to attend.
