Glen Powell Says ‘Twisters’ Features “One of the Most Incredible Action Sequences of All Time”

With great action comes great effort. Glen Powell teased “one of the most incredible action sequences of all time” in this summer’s Twisters, coming July 19.

The actor recounted his experience shooting the storm sequence in a Fandango’s Big Ticket interview, which he says “all happens in a oner.” The appearance was pegged to the film’s tickets going on sale.

“We shot that in December, with a rain machine,” Powell says in the clip. “One of the coldest nights I’ve ever experienced, getting dragged across a pool by a wire. I think it was the most physical thing that I’ve ever done.”

Daisy Edgar-Jones, Powell’s Twisters co-star, agrees “completely,” she says.

“You’re talking about humans getting sucked up into a tornado,” Powell continues. “But you’re recreating what it’s like to be getting hit by debris and all that stuff. So you’re watching real stuntmen getting sucked up into the sky, you’re watching trucks move across [the field], you’re jumping into a pool and you’re getting dragged… it’s a fully physical experience because the investment as an actor that you have to have is like, it can’t be delicate.”

The Anyone But You star adds, “It can’t be tender. Tornadoes aren’t tender. You have to put your body on the line in order to sell that experience.”

He concluded by saying that the entire Twisters cast impressed him with their full-body investment in the action.

Lee Isaac Chung‘s follow-up to Jan de Bont’s 1996 Twister will also feature Kiernan Shipka, David Corenswet, Sasha Lane, Maura Tierney, Katy O’Brian, Brandon Perea, Daryl McCormack, Harry Hadden-Paton, Nik Dodani and Tunde Adebimpe.

The legacy sequel will follow characters originated by Michael Crichton and Anne-Marie Martin, who wrote the 1996 movie. Patrick Crowley, Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Steven Spielberg serve as producers on Twisters.

Tickets for Twisters are on sale now.
