Andrew Bennett, one of the stars of Channel 4’s Gogglebox, was rushed to hospital after being assaulted on a night out in Sunderland, it has emerged.

He was taken to Sunderland Royal Infirmary on Saturday evening.

A source told The Sun: “He was attacked in the early hours of the morning on Saturday.

“He’d been out with his family and friends and was jumped while walking down the street. He had some really nasty injuries and is still in hospital.

“He’s really shocked but is determined to catch the person who attacked him and reported it to police the next morning from hospital.

“Andrew has been asking anyone with information or who witnessed the incident to get in touch with police.”

Bennett is a new addition to the show’s cast, and joined for its 12th series, which aired in September.

He’s filmed watching the week’s TV with his best friend Fawn on their sofa in South Shields.

Northumbria Police confirmed: “At 11.18am on Saturday December 1, we received a report of an assault on Vine Place, Sunderland.

“A 43-year-old man was pushed over and suffered minor injuries. He was taken to hospital as a precaution and officers later spoke with him at his home address.

“Police believe the offender was known to the victim and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
