Good Omens: David Tennant and Michael Sheen cast in Amazon adaptation

Former Time Lord David Tennant has been cast alongside Masters of Sex star Michael Sheen in Amazon’s new series Good Omens.

The show, which is an adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s book of the same name, will be the second adaptation of a Neil Gaiman novel by Amazon, following the success of American Gods earlier this year. It will also be his third in total, following Fox’s adaptation of his book Lucifer.

The show will follow Tennant as the demon, Crowley, and Sheen as the angel, Aziraphale, as they attempt to prevent the apocalypse after misplacing the Antichrist.

It is also expected to feature modern day adaptations of the horsemen of the apocalypse, including a war correspondent on a news desk as War, and a dietician as Famine.

The show will be produced by BBC Studios, in co-production with Neil Gaiman’s Blank Corporation and Terry Pratchett’s Narrativia. According to Variety it will consist of six one-hour episodes.

In a statement, Sheen said: "I first read Good Omens as a teenager and it's been one of my favourite stories ever since. To be part of the team entrusted with bringing it alive on screen is a bit of a dream come true to be honest. To work alongside Neil, who I think is one of the greatest storytellers of all time, is incredibly exciting. And, just like the rest of the world, I'm a huge fan of David's so I relish trying to save it with him."

Tennant is known for playing the title role in Doctor Who for three seasons, as well as for his acclaimed portrayal of the villain Kilgrave in season 1 of the Marvel-Netflix series Jessica Jones.

A statement by Narrativia said that the series will be broadcast “by Amazon Prime Video and the BBC,” and confirmed that “Narrativia Directors Rob Wilkins and Rod Brown are to Executive Produce the project".

The show is expected to hit screens sometime in 2018.
